The Electrical Training Institute of Indianapolis, also known as the Indianapolis Electrical JATC, is a collaborative effort between the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local Union #481 and the Central Indiana Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA). Together the union and the contractors have built one of the premier training centers in the country, the Electrical Training Institute. We currently have two separate apprenticeship programs, which are each described in greater detail below. 


The electrical apprenticeship program is five (5) years in length and the apprentices go to school for a minimum of eight hours every other week at ourtraining centerand then work on a construction site for an electrical contractor the other 9 days in the 2 week cycle. The typical school year runs from mid-August until mid-June. The apprentices have two semesters each year and will attend apprenticeship school a minimum of eighty-eight hours each semester.The apprentices also receive an Associate Degree in Applied Science from Ivy Tech Community College during the five years of their apprenticeship. The electrical apprenticeship programs across Indiana have an articulation agreement with Ivy Tech that allows the apprentices to receive their degree after completing a minimum of four general education classes. 


The telecommunications apprenticeship program is three (3) years in length (6 semesters/periods) and the apprentices go to school for a minimum of eight hours every other week at our training center while working on a construction or users site for a telecommunications contractor the other 9 days in the 2 week cycle. The typical school year runs from mid-August until mid-June. The apprentices have two semesters each year and will attend apprenticeship school a minimum of eighty-eight hours each semester. The telecommunication apprentices also receive an Associate Degree in Applied Science from Ivy Tech Community College during the three years of their apprenticeship. The telecommunications apprenticeship programs across Indiana have an articulation agreement with Ivy Tech that allows the apprentices to receive their degree after completing a minimum of four general education classes.


The geographic jurisdiction ofthe Electrical Training Instituteof Indianapolis includes the following counties in the central part of the state of Indiana: Bartholomew, Boone, Decatur, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Jennings, Johnson, Madison, Marion, Montgomery, Morgan, Putnam, Ripley, Rush, and Shelby.



Requirements

To meet minimum qualifications for apprenticeship:


Applicants must be a minimum of 17 years of age.


You must also be at least a high school graduate, or have a GED, or have a two-year Associate Degree or higher. You may also apply as a high school senior if you will graduate by the end of the school year. 


Requirements of successful completion of: one full year of high school algebra with a passing grade, or one post high school algebra (North Central Accredited) course (e.g. Adult Education, Continuing Education, Community College, etc.) with a passing grade. Credits for Algebra must be shown on the transcript. You may also provide evidence of having successfully completed the NJATC Math Course to satisfy this requirement:https://www.electricaltrainingalliance.org/Learning/OnlineTechMath. 


Provide an official transcript for high school and post high school education and training. All GED records must be submitted if applicable. Transcript of grades and/or GED test scores can be mailed to the apprenticeship office by the high school or place of testing in their letterhead envelope or delivered electronically by www.parchment.com (a digital credentialing service used by high schools and colleges) to kbell@eti-indy.org. Transcripts will also be accepted from the individual, if they are brought in with an “Official School Records” label across the back flap of the unopened envelope.(Transcripts will not be accepted by fax.) 


To qualify for an interview you must provide all transcripts and any other documentation required 60 days from the date of your application. 


Submit a DD-214 to verify military training and/or experience, if you are a veteran and wish to receive consideration for such training/experience.


Qualify for interview using the electrical trade’s aptitude test developed and validated by the American Institutes for Research.


 You must present a valid driver’s license to take the aptitude test. 


To qualify for interview you must also attend the lecture for the current selection procedure.


Present evidence that you possess a valid driver’s license.


Prior to being indentured, applicants selected from the pool of interviewed applicants must beat least 18 years of age.


Prior to being indentured, applicants selected from the pool of interviewed applicants will berequired to provide results of a drug screen as decided by the Electrical Training Institute.


Individuals who can verify (proper documentation required) that you have worked a minimum of four thousand (4,000) hours specifically in the electrical construction trade, do not need to complete the Aptitude Test or submit your school transcripts.


Proof of all minimum qualifications must be received in the apprenticeship office 60 days from the date of your application.
